He was known as the Ty Cobb of the Texas League. Born in Port Sullivan, Texas, Homer Peel played 14 seasons and had a lifetime Texas League batting average of .325. The outfielder hit better than .300 for a record 8 seasons. Peel was part of a Houston team in 1931 that featured future St. Louis Cardinals stars Dizzy Dean, Ducky Medwick and Tex Carlton. Peel was the first -and still the only- person to go to the Texas League All-Star Game as both a player and a manager.

The Texas Rangers turned their first triple play on Monday August 8,1977 against the Oakland Athletics at Arlington Stadium. The play started with a ground ball in the 5TH inning to third baseman Toby Harrah who stepped on third base then throwing to Bump Wills at second for the second out. Wills throw to Mike Hargrove at first completed the triple play. The Rangers went on to defeat the Athletics 3 to 0.
